There is many shapes possible, from easy and straight to curvy and complex to follow the shape of the seat. It is pretty rare to find this on back or arms but it exists.

The can look like a lot like a drop in seat chair but they need a finish to hide tacks or staples.

Cabriolet Chairs

Upholstering a Cabriolet chair is such a nice project for young upholsterer. Cabriolet is a delicate type of armchair. It designates a chair whose back is curved for greater comfort. This type of chair has a more or less curved back, as opposed to the flat-backed “à la reine” chair or side chair. The cabriolet was quite a revolution when it appears in the 17th century : the “à la reine” chair was placed against the walls and this was made to be placed in the middle of the room, it becomes lighter.

You have many ways to upholster the seat of this type of chair but it should always be with an edgeroll.

Bergere chair

Bergere is this classical armchair with a comfy back that originated in France in the 18th century.

The chair typically features upholstered armrest, back and seat, as well as a wooden frame and legs. The back can be flat or curvy (and it can be a picture back chair). Most of the time there is a cushion on the seat.

Modern chair

What we call modern chairs is here are all chairs design after the Bahaus. It always involves modern technique and industrial process like foam and metalic frame. Some of them are really easy to do, others can be tricky.

Modern chairs also involved a lot of sewing.
