Upholstery books (for beginners)

If your starting upholstery you might need some support as upholstery books !

Usefull upholstery books.

I love books and as a professional upholsterer of course I love collecting upholstery books. And because I’m not a native english speaker they totaly tought me english upholstery words… so helpull to hold the international upholstery summer classes !

My oldest (and best) traditional upholstery books are french (Claude Ossut) but unless you are already into upholstery they aren’t usefull for a total beginner, it’s more a professional upholstery book.

Yes we love books even…

Upholstery has so much sucess you will find many many upholstery books. Of courses some of them are more professional than others.

Let’s be honest as a professional upholsterer I can tell some of these ” professional step-by-step” upholstery book are written by total amateurs and make me want to scream. 🙈

Hopefully some of them are really usefull to DIYers. Some of my online upholsterers were able to accomplish great projects only with a book and my online tutorials and advice !

Also this is really interesting to me to discover how other people in other country are practicing upholstery when I am reading non-french upholsery book. The raw materials can be a little different from a country to another and I feel so lucky to practice upholstery in Europe because we can still find many traditionnal upholstery tools and materials.

The upholstery books i would advice for beginners.

I’m always amazed by what you’re able to accomplish with just some books and my online tutorials and tips. If you’re considering starting upholstery you may want to know what are my favorite ones.

I will keep adding new books if i found others interesting ones.

The upholstery bible

I really love this one because it keeps it short but still very usefull, especially for a total beginner. Almost everything you should know to start is in it.

I can tell this one was written by some professional upholsterer but I don’ think it deserves to be called “bible”.

Step by step guide to upholstery (392 pages)

I love this book and its design. It’s written by Amanda Brown.

What you will basicaly find in this book

  • Mix and match instructions
  • American materials and techniques
  • Basic upholstery moderntechniques
  • Tutorial for different type of seat using springs and foam…

My shoping list for Upholstery Books
